I am keeping well, all in all that is. I have some tests due later on next month and an eye test next week - which I am sure my doctor is not going to be happy about! Every year my eyes over all condition is deteriorating. There has been nothing serious and no need for any medical intervention but this time I am a bit worried about it
Diabetes can be a good friend, s/he is not a demanding one, just pay attention to the signals and cues and you will be fine
That is what every physician would tell you, more less, about any chronic disease. What they fail to tell you is how to deal with the consequences of seeing other people suffering from the same condition you got but you can simply do nothing about it for them!
A lot of children, in this time & age, are still suffering and even dying from the lack of insulin supplies or side-effects of diabetes. I am worried about my eyes and complaining about my strict diet requirements each 6 months and there are people who would do anything to have their children in the circumstances I am in.
When applying insulin shots, one needs to perform an air-shot (insulin into thin air) before injecting it into your body, this is done in order to clear any air inside the insulin needle. This is what they tell you when you start learning how to administer a shot on yourself. But this "tip" does not get circulated to patients living in poor countries. Even as little as 2 units of insulin (equal to few drops) can be valuable and patients are actually asked not to perform an air-shot
That is beyond sad, that is something no doctor can prepare you to deal with
I know I am being dramatic, I realise that. But it is something that has been with me for long and nowadays as I am feeling a bit worried I needed to write this and remind myself of some .. basics, some priorities, some tips to deal with my own 18-year old friend
even if that is on an intellectual level, not a practical one,
I am including a picture for no rational reason, just a picture. Nothing more, nothing less
(maybe because it is sunny today after three days of rain, I do not like rain!)
